Fort Carroll

In the Chesapeake Bay, in the US state of Maryland, near the city of Baltimore, there is a man-made island, Fort Carroll. The island was built in the middle of the XIX century and was used as an army training ground and a checkpoint for ships plying here during the Second World War.

At the end of the war, the island abandoned as unnecessary, after which immediately followed a mass of proposals for its further exploitation. Some suggested using it as a prison, others as a casino, but not one of the proposals realized in real life. At the moment, the abandoned island in the form of a hexagon has become the habitat of many species of birds.

Sarah Ellen Harper and Colin Curley proposed to build wooden sidewalks on the island and place an ecological park here.

Abandoned power plant

In the United States of America, in the state of Maryland, in the city of Westport, there is a large grey building. Once it supplied the whole city with electricity, but the need for it disappeared, and it simply forgotten.

Now an abandoned power plant does not bother anyone with its buzzing, does not make noise, but it looks very depressing. In 1995, people again remembered the construction. Terry Gilliam’s science fiction movie called “12 Monkeys” shot here. This is the one of the best Maryland attractions.

It’s worth it, and this is a gloomy building with sad old windows, yellowed from time to time. Huge metal cars are silent inside. Which are already difficult to see due to the thick layer of dust that has settled on them. And it is unlikely that once the station is again useful to mankind, which cannot be said about extreme lovers who are constantly tearing here, each time risking falling into some kind of hole or getting into a more dangerous situation.
